7 R’s of Sustainability
“The concept of sustainability is fundamental for students to understand the ways environmental, social and economic systems interact to support and maintain human life. The curriculum also provides students with the opportunity to participate creatively and to see themselves as having the capacity to act in ways that will help to establish more sustainable ways of living.” - Victorian Curriculum.
The human race has been the cause of many detrimental impacts towards our wildlife and environments, through poor waste management and decision making in regards to sustainability. We need to come together and pull our socks up and create a better world for our future generations, especially through education.
In this conservation class students will be able to interact with some of our unique wildlife, and come to understand how various waste items can impact both the environment and the longevity of a species. The class will also involve a creative group activity where students will separate different waste items, and then use the items in a fun sorting game.
The activities will be adjusted to suit each learning level.

Animal Classifications
This hands-on session will introduce the students to different kinds of groups of animals found in Australia, and will allow the students to identify and differentiate between them.
These groups include:
After the animal interactions, students will then participate in a fun class activity that has been created by Wildlife Sidekicks, and involves a custom designed game, called “Who Belongs Where?”, which will help to reinforce the session content.

Animal Habitats
In this class, students will learn about the different types of habitats that can be found in Australia. Our native animals exist and have evolved in many different types of environmental conditions, and it is important that students understand this relationship so that our future generations can monitor and conserve our wild and natural places. By the end of the session students will be able to describe the conditions that relate to a particular environment, such as dry, cold, wet etc.
The creative activity involved in this class will see students work in teams to complete an activity sheet as they observe various animals in their unique habitats, found in several custom designed enclosures displayed around the classroom.

Animal Habitat Detective
Life Cycles
A practical hands-on session where students will interact with animals such as frogs, possums, lizards, and birds - and learn about their particular life cycles.
Each student will then be able to use the information that they have received to create their own life cycle art project to display in their classroom, or to take home.
All materials will be provided for the students and is included in the pricing.

Food Chains & Webs
Food chains and webs are one of the most important concepts when trying to understand the sustainability of a particular natural environment. In this conservation session students will learn about the different parts of a food chain, including the producers and the different levels of consumers.
Students will also interact with different animals that correspond to the various categories found within a food chain.
The creative learning activity in this session will involve another custom designed game called “Eat or be Eaten”, which will help to reinforce the concepts of a food chain.

Cold & Warm Blooded
In this conservation class, students will learn the difference between warm and cold blooded animals and be able to identify and sort numerous animal species into these two categories.
The first half of the session involves an interactive introduction of animals found within these two groups. The remainder of the session involves a fun, creative learning game called “What Blood Are You”.

Snake Safety
This session will be about our slithering reptiles and has been designed to educate students about snake safety in a more fun and interactive way. The students will learn to respect and stay away from snakes, as well as what to do when they are bitten by one, especially if it is venomous! Throughout the session there will be safe and fun interactions with a variety of our friendly non-venomous snakes.
During the class students will be taught how to respond and treat a snake bite by pairing up and learning how to wrap each others legs and arms in special snake bite bandages.
By the end of this class students will have learnt how to behave correctly around potentially harmful snakes, and how to respond to a snake bite.

Specialist Extra-curricular Activity
Living & Non-Living
This workshop will help students to identify the differences between living and non-living things.
They will be introduced to these concepts through the use of a creative activity where students will receive an activity sheet to complete as they move around the classroom, observing several habitat windows where they will brainstorm and identify whether certain objects are either living or non-living.
